How to add third-column Live Tiles to Windows Phone 8.1 on Lumia
With the introduction of the Nokia Lumia 1520 we saw the arrival of a
third column of Live Tiles on those Windows Phone 8 smartphones with
resolutions larger than 800 x 480 pixels. It made a big change to the
usability of the screen, more space means more Live Tiles and more of
your life on the Start screen.
With Windows Phone 8.1 you’ll find the feature is now open to all smartphones, regardless of screen resolution.
Adding the third column of Live Tiles to your Windows Phone 8.1 Start screen is incredibly easy, go to Settings>Start+Theme and scroll down to the foot of the page. Here you you will find a tab you can switch on and when you head back to the Start screen you’ll find that your current tiles have been moved to the left.
Now, all that’s left to do is start populating the third column with apps, as well as move those apps already on your Start screen to new more prominent positions. If you ever want to switch back to a two-column format, simply repeat the process and turn the feature off, it’s that simple.
